Product Description
Antique Ayurveda Organic Flax Seeds are sourced from certified organic farms and naturally processed to preserve the seed's natural composition. Flax seeds (Linum usitatissimum) — known as Alsi in Hindi — are small, flat, brownish seeds with a mild, pleasant nutty flavour. They are among the richest plant-based sources of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) — a type of omega-3 fatty acid — and are also high in dietary fibre and natural lignans.
Flax seeds can be consumed whole, but grinding them fresh before use significantly improves the absorption of their natural compounds, as the whole seed shell is largely indigestible. Add freshly ground flax to smoothies, dals, chutneys, rotis, and baked goods.
Our flax seeds are NPOP certified organic — grown without synthetic pesticides — No additives, no preservatives.

As Per Ayurveda
Flax seeds (Atasi in Sanskrit) are referenced in classical Ayurvedic texts as having Snigdha (unctuous), Guru (heavy), and Ushna virya (heating) qualities. They are classified as beneficial for Vata dosha due to their nourishing, moistening nature. Classical texts describe them as supportive of skin health (Twak-prasadaka) and beneficial for natural elimination (Anulomana). Ayurveda recommends soaking or grinding them before consumption for better digestibility and nutrient availability.

FAQ
A: Yes — grinding flax seeds significantly improves the availability of their natural compounds. The hard outer seed coat is largely indigestible and passes through whole. Grind in small quantities as needed (a coffee grinder works well) and use within 24–48 hours as ground flax oxidises quickly. Store unground seeds in an airtight container.
A: Grind 1–2 tablespoons fresh daily and stir into warm dal, smoothies, or chutney. Add ground flax to roti dough for a nutritional boost. Whole seeds can be sprinkled over salads. Start with 1 teaspoon daily and gradually increase to allow your digestive system to adjust to the fibre content.
A: Yes — flax seeds are high in omega-3 fatty acids which are prone to oxidation. Whole seeds keep well in a cool, dark, airtight container for 12 months. Ground flax oxidises much faster — use within 24–48 hours of grinding, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. A rancid smell indicates the oil has oxidised.
A: Flax seeds in food quantities (1–2 tablespoons) are generally consumed safely. However, due to their natural lignan content (plant estrogen-like compounds), some practitioners advise moderation during pregnancy. Consult your healthcare provider or gynaecologist for personalised guidance during pregnancy.
